Since 1987, Manisha Gupte and her NGO, MASUM have been working in villages - some so remote they are accessible only on foot - throughout Maharashtra State in western India, to promote non-violence, cooperation, and gender equity. Witnessing the powerful and positive impact MASUM has had on thousands of individual lives so impressed us that when we returned to the United States, we began, without any outside funding, to produce a video of our own about the work they are doing. We have focused our video on how MASUM is working to empower rural women, who are so often victims of abuse, to stop domestic violence in their communities.

Once our production is completed, we will donate it to MASUM. Our idea is for the video to generate interest and support for MASUM, both in India, but also with overseas supporters. Manisha's ultimate goal is to wean MASUM from its reliance on major international foundations and rely instead on smaller donations from a broader base.

Manisha has really been going about the business of making a quiet revolution. We feel privileged to be part of the work.
